Progress Report

Project Description

As an E-Business student, I am going to create a website service for the customers to download games on their computer so that they can play the game. The reason why I wanted to make this website is because there isn’t much competition and also it will save time for the customers to go to shop and purchase a game.

Objectives

The objectives of my work are as follows

To design and create an Entity relationship diagram (ERD) of how the database tables are linked to each other and what attributes are held in each entity and also showing a relationship from one entity to another e.g. 1:M, M:N, etc.

To be able to Map the ERD by writing a entity and the attributes held in that entity and how the entities are linked using primary and foreign key.

To normalise the ERD to break down the entities into 3 steps of normal form to remove repeated attributes and also to insure that the primary keys are not dependant on non-Key attributes.

To design a Data Flow Diagram (DFD) to show the processes involved with movement of data.

To design a Graphical User Interface (GUI) of the website for each page.

To design a rough website on the computer by mix and combine different elements from different websites.

To create an Interface Structure Design (ISD) to show how each pages are linked and navigated.
To write a functional requirement of the process involved within the site.

To research about the competitors such as writing about the GUI of each site and comparing and contrasting the websites.

To create a data dictionary to identity the primary key and foreign key and also identifying the data types of each attributes and the formats e.g. for DOB attribute, the format could be short date (dd/mm/yy), etc.

Constraints

One of the constraints that I’m having is that for the functional requirement report that I created, which explains the process of the site, I haven’t explain more about the process involved within the site.

Another constraint, which I’m having is that for investigating the competitors, I didn’t explain in more details about what the competitors do and why they do it in such a way and I only explained the functionality of it and the GUI and when comparing and contrasting, I have explained again about the GUI but I did not explain, which website is good and why. To deal with this matter, I have to investigate even more by sending email to the company and also to search for the information by using the search engine to find out more about the company.

Another constraint that I had was that I did not have time to create data dictionary as I was concentrating on creating the design and the ERD diagram and also concentrating on coursework with other modules.

The last constraint that I’m having is that when I was designing the website, I did not explain the layout of the design and why I created in such a way. To deal with this problem, I have to refer back to the design and explain each design.

The reason why I had so many constraint was that I was concentrating on the coursework for other modules and I did not have time to produce the design on time.
